Ken Barlow has been a stalwart of the long-running ITV soap since its inception in 1960.
As his son Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) readies to take over as the family patriarch, Ken Barlow (Bill Roache) might be about to leave Weatherfield.
Even though his son was getting ready to wed Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan), the long-running Coronation Street character has been sidelined in recent plotlines.
Actor Rob made a suggestion that he might be the “new Ken Barlow” as Daisy and Daniel get ready to grow their family.
At the Mummy’s Star Ball, he declared: “I think he will eventually be [a dad].”
I believe he only needs to grow his brood; that would be wonderful.
In his own words, Rob told the Daily Star, “I think he needs to climb up the family tree, take on more responsibility, and be the new Ken Barlow.”
The actor even jokingly said Daniel is already a “mini Ken with a chip on his shoulder” and wants to follow in his father’s footsteps by having a fulfilling career.
I think he sees it as a noble profession, being in the STC (Secure Training Centre) to give kids another chance when they leave.
Daniel is currently working to support Daisy after she underwent a terrifying stalking ordeal and was involved in an acid attack.
Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) stepped in the way to prevent Daisy from being hurt, and the two had just kissed.
Ryan vowed he would never see Daisy again after learning she had been impersonating his former love interest Crystal.
Rob is optimistic that the two can overcome whatever is thrown at them because Daniel is not yet aware of Daisy’s betrayal.
He said, “I believe Daniel and Daisy’s personalities are so dissimilar that when they clash, they really clash.
So, I’m hoping that before the wedding, we’ll be able to play out a little more of the conflict.
However, I don’t believe it will happen anytime soon because happy characters don’t produce tension.
