Evelyn Plummer from Coronation Street met up with her drug-addicted daughter Cassie after a long separation.
As Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) and Cassie (Claire Sweeney) left Weatherfield on Friday night, viewers of Coronation Street were devastated.
Cassie needed her mother’s assistance to quit using drugs so that she could properly enter Tyrone Dobbs’ (Alan Halsall) life because he thinks she is dead.
After agreeing to assist her, Evelyn ran from the cobbles as she revealed they would be sharing a flat and Cassie would have to quit smoking completely.
After seeing the pair leave the ITV soap, viewers quickly took to Twitter to express their opinions on the abrupt departure.
“This is Evelyn’s temporary leaving story,” @JamieSummersTV continued. She must return as soon as possible. Lipman has excelled recently and has appeared on screen much more frequently than usual for “Corrie.”

Casting Dame Maureen Lipman and Claire Sweeney as Evelyn and Cassie Plummer is genius, as @mishybabez_ wrote. Amazing scenes for them both this week, and I can’t wait for more. #Corrie.”
“#Corrie hope Evelyn isn’t gone for too long,” tweeted @priya_05_x.
“Evelyn & Cassie have a fresh start; I’m hoping for the best right away,” tweeted @yasmin_ali10.[sic] The episode’s conclusion was excellent. @clairesweeney introducing Cassie this week loved it, Claire take a bow, and Maureen Lipman.”
Hope Evelyn and Cassie aren’t gone for too long, tweeted @MJ_JJ061215. This week, Dame Maureen Lipman has excelled even further than usual.
“How long is Evelyn going to be gone, I’m already missing her,” commented @teenamassam.

In an interview with Expree.co.uk and other media outlets, actress Claire Sweeney discussed her role in greater detail.
“I love Cassie, and I hope the audience loves her as much as I do,” she remarked. She has a lot of issues, is troubled, and is vulnerable.
“As I read the script, I want her to get her act together. Because I’m a fan and we all love Tyrone as fans, it’s difficult for me.
You wouldn’t want to offend him in any way, would you? As I read these scripts, I find myself pleading with Cassie to “sort herself out.”

It’s also nice to see Evelyn from a different perspective as a mother. However, she does so by having Tyrone’s grandmother in the picture.
It doesn’t appear that Evelyn will have an easy time, though, as her daughter is likely to cause trouble.
Cassie is trouble, she’s feisty, and she’s going to cause some trouble on the cobblestones, the soap star continued. She is a wild card, but she also has weaknesses.
