Exclusive: Tyrone Dobbs’ drug-addicted mother Cassie, whom he believes to be dead, was played by Claire Sweeney in Coronation Street.
There will be drama as Cassie makes her Weatherfield debut, according to new Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney.
As Cassie was being admitted to the hospital for her drug use on Wednesday evening, viewers of the ITV soap opera first met her.
Evelyn Plummer, who was portrayed by Maureen Lipman, admitted to telling Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) that she had passed away as she went to see her.
Actress Claire shared her thoughts on the new arrival in an interview with Express.co.uk and other media outlets.
“I love Cassie, and I hope the audience loves her as much as I do,” she remarked. She has a lot of issues, is troubled, and is vulnerable.
“As I read the script, I want her to get her act together. Because I am a fan as well and we all love Tyrone, it’s difficult for me.
You wouldn’t want to offend him in any way, would you? As I read these scripts, I find myself pleading with Cassie to “sort herself out.”
It’s also nice to see Evelyn from a different perspective as a mother. Mind you, she does so by having Tyrone’s grandmother in the picture.
However, it appears that the residents of Weatherfield will experience a wave of drama as a result of Cassie’s arrival.
The soap star continued, describing her character as “troubled, feisty, and she’s going to cause some trouble on the cobbles.”
She’s a bit of a loose cannon, but she’s also quite vulnerable.
Although Cassie hasn’t yet met her son in person, official spoilers indicate that they will soon.
Evelyn’s grandson informs her that a woman named Cath has stopped by to see her as she makes her way home.
Tyrone asks how they know each other, which sends her into a panic when she enters the room and sees Cassie smiling on the couch.
Will she confess to Tyrone that she has been misinforming him about his mother for years? Will she stick to her fabrication that Cassie is no longer alive?
