Coronation Street’s Claire Sweeney pays tribute to ‘fantastic’ co-star Maureen Lipman

-

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Claire Sweeney gushed about working with her new on-screen mother, Dame Maureen Lipman.
At the end of June, Claire Sweeney will make her debut on Coronation Street as Cassie, the estranged daughter of Evelyn Plummer (played by Maureen Lipman).

Even though Evelyn told her grandson Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) that his biological mother had passed away, fans of the ITV soap opera will be aware that she had been hiding Cassie’s whereabouts.

There will likely be a lot of drama because Evelyn and Cassie’s relationship is complicated.

Actress Claire Sweeney had nothing but praise to say about filming with her on-screen mother when speaking to Express.co.uk and other media outlets.

Working with Maureen is like attending a masterclass, the woman said. She is truly amazing.

“I simply want to do more things with her and with Alan. Alan is a fantastic actor, as I discovered during my screen test.

“I’m in the company of wonderful people.”

Tyrone (Margi Clarke) in the soap opera grew up thinking his mother was Jackie (before an investigation in 2018 brought him in touch with his grandmother Evelyn for the first time).

Tyrone’s real mother is battling a drug addiction, and Evelyn didn’t think she would be able to care for him, so she left him at a police station, where Jackie found him.

But as Cassie decides it’s time to get back in touch with her family, Tyrone will experience heartbreak when he realizes his grandmother has been lying to him for all these years.

Continuing, Claire said, “His grandma’s been lying to him and it’s a whole scenario about to unfold before our eyes. The arrival of Cassie will rock the family.

Evelyn wants Cassie out of the way, and I assume she also cares about Tyrone and the kids.

She knows Cassie is a loose cannon, so she wants to shield them. She wants to shield them and maintain their happy environment.

Iain MacLeod, the soap’s producer, praised Claire for joining and hinted that there would be drama.

“The scenes with Claire, Tyrone, and Evelyn will be electric,” he said. “Claire bowled us over in her audition.

“Her arrival will usher in a turbulent period for Tyrone and the family, and in the weeks and months that follow, her impact will be felt across the street.”

On June 28, Claire will make her Weatherfield debut for viewers of the ITV soap opera.
