Evelyn Plummer of Coronation Street briefly left the show last year to travel to see a “friend” in another country. In an interview with maiil.online, actress Claire Sweeney acknowledges that wasn’t entirely accurate.
In upcoming episodes of Coronation Street, Evelyn Plummer (played by Maureen Lipman) is expected to cross paths with a familiar face from her past.
She sees her estranged daughter Cassie (Claire Sweeney) across the street but decides to ignore her, according to spoilers.
She receives a troubling phone call as she is on her way to the Bistro to meet Roy Cropper (David Neilson) and Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King), which prompts her to rush to A&E.
Evelyn tells a receptionist that Cassandra Plummer, her daughter, has been admitted as an emergency.
She later discovers Cassie discharged herself from the hospital, which horrifies her.
Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall), her grandson, welcomes Evelyn back to the house by telling her that someone named Cath has come to see her.
However, when Tyrone asks how they know each other, Evely is startled and panics when she enters and sees her daughter smiling on the sofa.
He doesn’t realize it, but Cassie is his biological mother, who he thought had passed away.
ITV viewers will learn that Evelyn left Tyrone at a police station when he was a baby because she knew her daughter’s drug problems would make it impossible for her to properly care for Tyrone.
Despite leaving Tyrone in the dark, it appears that Evelyn never completely lost contact with her daughter.
Claire Sweeney said of Cassie in a statement to Express.co.uk and other media outlets: “She’s (Cassie) an addict and that’s what makes her so unpredictable and a loose cannon.
She genuinely wants to get better and spend time with her family. But it’s sad that she has an addiction.
People are unaware that Evelyn and Cassie have been dating for some time, but Evelyn has intermittently offered Cassie support and assistance.
“Then she (Cassie) shows up; she needs her mother so she shows up for assistance. She wants to see Tyrone, she wants to get sober and get involved.
Evelyn temporarily left the cobblestones last year while actress Maureen Lipman participated in a theater production, as fans of the ITV soap opera will recall.
Even though people thought she was going to visit a “friend,” it turned out that she was actually spending time with Cassie.
Regarding Evelyn’s departure from the group last year, Claire continued, “At that point, she was helping her get clean. Poor Cassie, she cleans up and then reverts to her old ways.
ITV will continue to air Coronation Street at 8 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
