The condition of Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold) in EastEnders has recently gotten much worse, and nurse Suzanne has told Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) that she will probably be unconscious for most of the time she has left.
She informed Lola’s grieving husband that it was probably best to start saying goodbyes as it was unlikely that Lola would live for very long.
Since November, Lola has been battling an uncurable brain tumour and has undergone therapy to extend her life.
However, it was subsequently discovered that the medication had ceased to be effective, and none of the subsequent palliative care she received had assisted in halting the tumor’s growth.
The family was saddened because Lola had only a few weeks to live as a result.
Before alerting Lola’s friends to her impending death, Jay was compelled to have a painful chat with young Lexi (Isabella Brown) and explain what Suzanne had stated.
The first person to arrive was Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy), who sat down next to Lola and wondered what the late Dot Cotton would have thought. She said that Dot Cotton would have delighted that Lola had been christened.
She continued by assuring Lola that she would be taken care of after she left and then began reading her a psalm from the Bible, just as Dot would have done.
The following visitor was Lola’s friend and ex-employee Denise Fox (Diane Parish), who massaged Lola’s hands while recalling their time spent working together.
She expressed gratitude for her friendship and pledged to watch out for Lexi.
After spending the night in a jail cell, Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) finally came, and Lola had a brief, priceless moment of lucidity. She mustered the courage to tell him she loved him.
Emotional As she dozed off again, Billy clutched her hands and vowed to be at her side always.
When Jay and Lola were at last left alone, he vowed that he wouldn’t leave and pleaded with her not to leave just yet.
