After tonight’s (May 31) heartbreaking EastEnders episode, in which Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold) tragically passed away from a brain tumor, we have officially used up all of our tissues.
Due to Lola’s inability to sustain consciousness for longer than a few minutes at a time, her family was aware that her time was running out. The family gathered at No. 18 as Lola’s time was running out, her friends having already said their final goodbyes.
Even though the absence of Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) initially created a tense environment, Lola’s family members soon put their differences aside as Kathy (Gillian Taylforth), Callum (Tony Clay), and Phil (Steve McFadden) gathered by Lola’s bedside.
Before the grief got to be too much for him and he had to leave, Callum promised to look after Lexi (Isabella Brown).

When Phil brought up Lola’s funeral, Kathy became upset and offered to pay for everything so that Billy (Perry Fenwick) and Jay (Jamie Borthwick) wouldn’t have to worry about it.
However, Phil found himself unable to say goodbye to Lola, leaving without a word when Lexi asked where he was going.
With everyone having headed back home, Honey (Emma Barton) took her turn to say goodbye, revealing what an honour it had been to be her friend.
As Jay remained sitting by his wife’s bedside, he became frustrated with Lexi playing music and wanting to paint her mum’s fingernails. However, it wasn’t long before he realised that this was her way of wanting to say goodbye, and left the pair of them alone.
He was given the opportunity to spend some alone time with Lola when he came back, and Lexi returned the favor.
Jay was heartbroken when he told Lola, who was unconscious, that he couldn’t say goodbye because she would always be with him.
Jay left Lexi sleeping next to her mother while he quickly went to the bathroom after spending the entire night by her side, waiting for her tragic demise.

He was heartbroken to learn upon his return that she had passed away during his brief absence.
Lexi awoke and explained that Lola had done it on purpose, for them, as he sobbed bitterly over missing the opportunity to be there.
As the episode came to a close, Jay sat down on the bed next to them, leaving us all inconsolable as EastEnders said goodbye to one of Walford’s most beloved characters.
